Sergey Antonovich Chizhik

Sergey Antonovich Chizhik (b. 28.05.1959, v. Osmolovo, Nesvizh district, Minsk region), a scientist in the field of physics and surface mechanics at the micro- and nano-level, nanodiagnostics. Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2014; corresponding member since 2009), Doctor of Engineering Sciences (1998), Professor (2007).

— Since 1980 - at the Institute of Mechanics of Metal-Polymer Systems named after V.A. Bely of the NAS of Belarus, since 1999 - Head of the laboratory, since 2002 - Head of the department.
— Since 2002 - Head of the laboratory, since 2005 - Head of the department, since 2007 - Deputy Director of the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer named after A.V. Lykov of the NAS of Belarus.
— Since 2008 - Deputy Chief Scientific Secretary, in 2009-2012 - Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
— Since February 2012 - Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. At the same time - Head of the laboratory of the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer named after A.V. Lykov of the NAS of Belarus. By Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of May 2, 2014 No. 201, he was appointed First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences. Member of the editorial boards of the magazines "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus", "Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials", "Mechanical Engineer".

Scientific research in the field of tribomechanics of precision contact, physics and mechanics of surfaces at the micro- and nano-level, nanostructured materials science, nanodiagnostics of materials by atomic-force microscopy. He obtained the fundamental laws of formation and functioning of precision frictional contact, developed statistical models of contact of multilevel rough surfaces under conditions of effective action of surface forces, which were used in the design of working surfaces in magnetic recording systems, micro-tweezers and micro-electromechanical systems. Under his leadership and with the direct participation of developed methods, created theoretical models and unique equipment for complex analysis of surfaces at the nano level. New procedures in atomic force microscopy have been developed: lateral force spectroscopy, oscillating tribometry, nanowelling and drilling. Technologies of membrane-capillary transport were developed to create nano-manipulators based on carbon nanotubes, controlled formation of single nano-objects (particles, wires, nanotubes) on the tip of the probe, followed by evaluation of their physical and mechanical properties. New directions are being developed - nanotomography of the surface layer and cellular nanomechanics. Under his leadership and with direct participation, the development was carried out and for the first time since 1994, production of domestic atomic-force microscopes of the Nanotop and Nanotester series was launched, which are used in dozens of scientific and industrial laboratories of the Republic of Belarus and are also shipped abroad.

Author of over 280 scientific papers, incl. 2 monographs, 7 patents.
